Downrange Bike Works LLC offers six defined workshop services from our West Jordan facility at 5197 W Wells Park Rd Ste 220B. Each one is quoted against a written specification, performed on calibrated equipment and released with a measured record, so the rider knows exactly what changed and why.

We work on road, gravel, mountain, touring and electric bicycles, and we are equally comfortable with mechanical and electronic systems. Whatever the machine, the process is the same: audit, specify, execute, document.

JOB 01

Custom Bike Assembly

Custom Bike Assembly is the full integration of a frame, fork and component set into a finished, commissioned machine. We begin by auditing the frame against the riders intended use, checking alignment, thread condition, facing surfaces and axle standards. Every mating surface is prepared before assembly, because paint, machining residue and burrs all steal preload from the fasteners that hold the bicycle together.

We then stage the groupset and build in a fixed order: headset and fork, bottom bracket and cranks, wheels and tyres, cockpit, drivetrain, brakes and finally the electronic or mechanical control systems. Hydraulic brakes are cut, inserted, bled and bedded in. Electronic derailleurs are paired, updated and set through their service interface. Power meters, computers and lights are mounted and tested. The finished bicycle is weighed, measured against the fit sheet and road tested before it is handed over.

JOB 02

Professional Bike Fitting

Professional Bike Fitting places the rider on the bicycle with measurement rather than intuition. We begin with a physical assessment of flexibility, leg length difference and foot structure, then set the contact points in a defined order that starts at the pedals and works upward. Cleat rotation and fore and aft position are set first, because errors there propagate into the knees and hips.

Saddle height, setback and tilt follow, guided by dynamic knee angle and pressure mapping. We then work forward to reach, drop and bar width, adjusting stem length and spacers as needed. Each change is recorded, and the rider is re-measured after every adjustment so the outcome is reproducible. A final loaded session confirms the position holds under effort, and the rider leaves with a fit sheet listing every dimension on the machine.

JOB 03

Tune-Up and Safety Checks

Tune-Up and Safety Checks are the routine service that keeps a bicycle reliable between major overhauls. The machine is cleaned, mounted on the stand and inspected in a fixed sequence so nothing is skipped. We measure brake pad and rotor wear, check hydraulic fluid condition, test bearing play in hubs, headset and bottom bracket, and inspect the frame and fork for cracks or impact damage.

Drivetrain wear is measured rather than assumed, with chain elongation and cassette condition recorded. Cables and housings are inspected, tyres are checked for cuts and pressure, and every safety critical fastener is torqued and marked. Riders receive a written report that separates work done today from items that should be watched at the next visit, which makes maintenance planning far easier over a season.

JOB 04

Wheel Building and Truing

Wheel Building and Truing is the discipline that gave the shop its name. A wheel is a preloaded tension structure, and it only stays true when tension is balanced around the rim, dish is centred over the axle and the rim is round within a tight window. We lace wheels by hand in the pattern the rider needs, whether that is a traditional three cross build or a modern straight pull arrangement.

Tensioning happens in small increments with a calibrated meter, alternating sides so the rim is pulled rather than pushed into position. Lateral and radial runout are corrected on the trueing stand with a dial indicator, dish is set with a gauge, and the wheel is stress relieved between passes. Only when the finished wheel holds its readings is it released, complete with maximum, minimum and average tension figures written into the service record.

JOB 05

Drivetrain Overhauls

Drivetrain Overhauls return the transmission to clean, quiet and precise operation. We remove the chain, cassette, chainrings and derailleurs, clean every component and inspect for wear patterns that reveal underlying alignment problems. Hanger alignment is checked with a dedicated gauge, because a hanger that is off by a few millimetres will defeat even a perfect derailleur adjustment.

Bearings in pulleys, freehub bodies and bottom brackets are serviced or replaced, and lubrication is chosen to suit the climate the rider actually rides in. Chainline and derailleur geometry are then set and verified through the full gear range under load. Electronic groupsets are connected to their service software so shift precision, battery health and firmware status can be confirmed and updated before release.

JOB 06

Suspension Service and Setup

Suspension Service and Setup keeps the moving half of a mountain bicycle working as designed. We perform lower leg services, air can services and full damper bleeds, replacing seals, wipers and bath oil at the intervals the manufacturer specifies. Worn bushings and damaged stanchions are identified early, before they turn a service into a replacement.

Setup follows the rebuild. We measure sag with the rider aboard, set air pressure and volume spacers, and tune rebound and compression in both directions until the fork and shock are balanced. The rider is walked through the adjustments and given a simple field guide, so small changes can be made on the trail without losing the baseline. Pressures, shim notes and service dates are all recorded for the next interval.

How A Service Travels Through The Shop

Every service above follows the same four stage path regardless of size. That consistency is deliberate: it is the reason a brake adjustment and a ground up build both finish with measured values and a written record.

STAGE 01

Intake And Audit

We log the machine, the rider and the intended use, then measure condition before quoting so the estimate is grounded in evidence.

STAGE 02

Specification

Components, torque values and geometry targets are written down, giving the job a defined finish line that both sides understand.

STAGE 03

Work On The Stand

The bicycle is stripped, built or adjusted on the bench, with each stage measured against the specification as it proceeds.

STAGE 04

Release And Record

The finished machine is road tested, documentation is handed over, and the next service interval is agreed with the rider.
